"Fantastic Ideas for a Fantastic World"

Headless websites, with the head still attached.

For projects that need more flexibility than a conventional site can comfortably provide, Fantastic Ideas combines interface design, technical architecture, and web development around the product, not around a template.

What headless means

In a headless website, the content or commerce system lives in the back while the customer-facing experience is built separately in the front. Shopify can remain the commerce engine while a custom frontend controls presentation and interaction.

That separation creates freedom. It also creates more decisions: previewing, search, analytics, content workflow, caching, hosting, and deployment all need a clear owner. This is why the architecture part matters.

When headless earns its keep

Headless is worth exploring when a conventional theme is fighting the product, when content and commerce come from several systems, or when the frontend needs to support a genuinely unusual experience.

  • The customer experience needs highly custom behavior
  • Content and commerce need to work as one editorial system
  • Several services must be composed into one frontend
  • The same content or commerce layer serves multiple channels
  • The team can support the operational complexity after launch

When it does not

Headless is not automatically faster, more flexible in every practical sense, or better for search. A poor implementation simply creates two systems that can disappoint you instead of one.

If a theme can produce the experience and the team values simple operations, the sensible architecture may be the one with fewer moving parts. We are fond of those too.

The work around the code

A useful headless engagement considers interface behavior, content structure, commerce requirements, performance, accessibility, analytics, search visibility, and the workflow of the people maintaining it.

The frontend is the visible part. The decisions connecting everything behind it are the product.

Frequently asked, occasionally answered.

Is headless commerce always faster?
No. Headless gives a team more control over performance decisions, but the result depends on implementation, data fetching, caching, media, third-party scripts, and ongoing maintenance.
Can Shopify be used for headless commerce?
Yes. Shopify's Storefront API exposes products, collections, carts, and checkout capabilities for custom storefronts, and Hydrogen is Shopify's React-based framework for headless commerce.
How do we decide between a theme and headless?
Start with the experience and operational requirements. Choose headless only when the value of a separate frontend clearly outweighs the extra build and maintenance complexity.
What is a typical project timeline?
12 to 20 weeks. The range depends on the number of systems involved, the maturity of the content and data models, and how much custom application behavior the frontend requires.
